Certification Levels
The Smart and Environmentally Sustainable Rating System assigns points based on strategies adopted across five categories, qualifying neighborhoods for certification based on a specific percentage of points earned, offering two levels of certification.
Certified (40-64% of points)
Neighborhoods achieve certification by implementing water conservation measures, energy efficiency improvements, responsible waste management programs, and basic green infrastructure elements, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable practices.
Justification
Certified status requires a 40% commitment to sustainable development within a neighborhood, demonstrating a collective commitment to environmental responsibility and resource conservation. This level is achievable through community-wide initiatives and resident participation, making it a practical target for sustainability journeys.
Gold (65% or more points)
Gold-certified neighborhoods demonstrate a community's commitment to environmental stewardship and technical innovation. These neighborhoods use advanced features like smart meter data analytics for real-time monitoring of water consumption patterns, advanced leak detection systems for precise leak detection, direct integration of renewable energy sources like solar panels, and smart waste management systems for enhanced efficiency. These features help minimize water loss, optimize water usage, and promote renewable energy sources for on-site use.
Justification
The Gold certification based on a 65% threshold, acknowledges neighborhoods that are pioneers in sustainability, demonstrating exceptional environmental leadership through advanced technologies and data-driven approaches, and serve as a model for others.
